China no longer accepting plastics from other countries

The world has a big problem. China announced that they will no longer be accepting plastics for recycling. Since January 2018, China had stopped accepting from other countries. This is because it causes them contamination problems. Unfortunately, this will have a great impact on countries who use to give their recycling to China because no one will accept their plastic.

China stopped accepting plastics. Significantly, the plastic that China received from other countries has not been properly cleaned or mixed with unrecyclable material. For this reason, China announces “For the protection of the environment and people’s health” and therefore stopped accepting plastics because of contamination problems. This is important because people need to know what really happens to our plastic and who is being affected by our actions and now NZ has to take responsibility for our plastics.

China not accepting plastic has been a massive problem to our country and others who used to give their plastics to China. Unfortunately, stockpiles of recycling have been stuck at Huntly MetroWaste. At one point, there was 400tonnes of plastic. Also in New Zealand, 150 tonnes of plastic ignited and burned down at the Smart Environmental recycling plant near Thames. If we don’t stop using single-use plastic we will have to deal with 111MT of additional plastics by 2030. This is significantly important to know because we have to be aware of the consequences of single-use plastics.

We need to stop using single-use plastic bags now or else we will be in deep problems in the future. This is because China has stopped accepting plastics from anyone. Why? Because of the contamination problems that are caused by plastics. This can also happen to us if we don’t put a stop on single-use plastic bags. But how? Wherelse are we going to put them after use? Recycling bin right. But do they really get recycled? Currently, there are tons of plastic stuck in our waste stations and the pile just keeps adding up which will eventually lead to contamination problems.

Mastes

Mastes tribe/Jaguar people are indigenous people that live along the Javari River in the remote area of the Amazon forest. They lived in small villages over the Amazon forest.  Interestingly, they use a “slash and burn” technique which releases nutrients into the soil. Their life has changed following contact from outsiders and missionaries encouraging assimilation into the modern culture. For this reason, many young Mastes have lost interest in their tribe. Big cities pulls younger Mastes away from their traditions and adapt to the modern lifestyle

Science dicovery (29/11/18)

What do we want to achieve today? Our plan for today is to make our final product. We are both going to do it cause it's a team job and we have a lot of flavours planned.

FINAL RESULT:
We made three Ice cream flavours. The first one was apple flavour. It was really good but it could have been better if we peeled the skin off before crushing it. The Oreo flavour was the best flavour. People liked it a lot. I think it was good as well but it was a little bit too sweet. We shouldn't have added extra sugar. Our last flavour was terrible. We added too many berries so we just threw it out.

Science Discovery

What we achieved today? We now know what we flavour we want to recreate our ice cream. We also started our presentation

PASSION PROJECTS (SCIENCE DICOVERY)

Our aim was to make different flavours of ice cream using dry ice and serve them in chocolate bowls.

On our first day of experiments (19/11/18), we tried making chocolate bowls out of Cadbury chocolate. On our first attempt, we made five chocolate bowls but only two were successful because they were hard to get off the ballon. On our second attempt, we put oil on our ballons hoping that it will not stick to the ballon as hard. That attempt was a fail because it wasn't fully covered in chocolate. Eventually, we learned from our mistakes and used Dark chocolate we turned out really good and instead of using normal balloons we used water balloons.

Ice cream.
It was our first attempt on making Ice cream and I think it tuned out really well. We had two flavours one was supposed to be sprite but it tasted like milk with a bit of lemon. On our second flavour, we put chocolate chips which turned out to be the best flavour out if the two.

DISCOVERY- PASSION PROJECTS 22/11/18

We made Ice cream and we put it inside a chocolate bowl. We had 2 flavours of Ice cream. One was supposed to taste like sprite but it ended up tasting like milk but it still tasted good. The second flavour we put chocolate chips in the ice cream mix and it was the best one out of the two.

We made our chocolate bowls with 70% dark chocolate. We melted the chocolate and we dipped a ballon halfway in the melted chocolate and freeze them.

Earthquake proof house

Was it successful? Why/Why not? NO, because my teammates put a stick platform under the base of our house which made it slippery.

What do architects to make super tall buildings safe? Thicker walls and a lot of reinforcement. They put a make sure they put a strong foundation to keep the building from swaying because of strong winds.

Reflection Blog-ENE Research

(17/10/18)
What went well today? We started our research about how typhoons formed.

Is there anything you need help with? Who can help you? Probably clarifying the questions.

What didn't go well today? We didn't get much research done because there was a misunderstanding on what we're supposed to do.

How will you improve on that next lesson? Ask the teacher to clarify the questions to make it easier

(18/10/18)
What went well today? We are almost done with gathering information and we started our diagrams

Is there anything you need help with? Who can help you? We were going to use my simple show but it's not available to use in our standard

How will you improve on that next lesson?  Draw more diagrams and write an essay

(29/10/18)
What went well today? We finally finished the diagrams and almost finished the Impacts of the ENE

Is there anything you need help with? Who can help you? We don't need any help we just need to work faster and get all our research done

How will you improve on that next lesson? Work faster.

(1/11/18)
What went well today? We are almost finished on the cultural and natural effects of our ENE

Is there anything you need help with? Who can help you? NO

(2/11/18)
What went well today? We got a lot of information on how they responded to the Typhoon. Before it happened, During, and after.

Is there anything you need help with? Who can help you? We don't need any help. we just need to research more

(8/11/18)
What went well today? We are close to finishing our presentation. We just need to put all our information on our slides.

Is there anything you need help with? NO

Persuasive writing (as a class) reflection

What did I learn?
I learned that you shouldn't use the same describing word in the same paragraph to make your writing more interesting.

Why did we do it as a class?
We did it as a class so we can all share ideas, To have wider vocab choices, and so we can learn from the top writers of the class on how they can make a boring sentence into an astounding writing

What will I do better next time?
I'll try to not use the same words over and over again to make my writing more interesting.

What questions do I still have?
Is writing short paragraphs better than writing long paragraphs?

Creative Writing

My life in London was terrible. We were exposed to a lot of diseases, low wages, and poor housing quality. Our wages were so low we struggled to put food on the table. Our jobs were also really dangerous but we have no choice or else we won't survive. Our houses were really small. They were so small we barely have any windows. We had no running water and we had to reuse our bath water over and over again. Our house was hard to clean because the stains won't come out easily because we don't have enough water to clean it. We had to share toilets with our neighbors which are disgusting. The toilets aren't clean. The disease was also a big problem in London. Thypus, Thypoid, and cholera are the main diseases in London. These diseases spread fast because of the poor houses and the water because we only get the water from one tap.

Journey:
My journey to NZ was alright. It wasn't the best but it wasn't that bad. My space was on the saloon deck which is below the poopdeck. It wasn't really comfortable but its better than a low ceilinged space under the main deck. The toilets were disgusting and smelly. It was only cleaned once a day. Only thing unenjoyable was when it was storming outside and it wasn't stable and this would get me seasick. The worst part is the food. It was low in nutrition and it didn't taste good

Arrival in NZ
When we arrive in NZ. I was astonished by the beauty on the land. Clear skies and fresh air and the birds chirping sounded like better opportunities calling. The people were so friendly. It felt like home but better opportunities and lifestyle. The best part is the water and the houses. The water was crystal clear and you didn't have to share the same tap to other people. The houses were beautiful not too big but not too small it was perfect, unlike London where you didn't have backyard space. I am now happy that I made the bold choice to move here. The future is much clearer in here and I think I'm going to start my family in here.

Persuasive Writing

“Thou shalt not kill.” Hunting animals for sports should be banned. This is because it's inhumane to kill with no reason, Animals are like humans they have a life to live and not meant to be killed, and also because it can make that certain animal extinct

Why would you kill without a good reason? You kill animals but you get mad at people who threaten your family? Then you feel depressed when someone kills your relatives yet you kill Animals? Animals share something in common with humans which is feelings. How do you think they’ll feel when you kill one of their own? Sad right. Then why do you do it?

Animals are creatures of their own they have a life to live, family to feed, and has to work hard just to do all of this. Yet here we are, 2018 people, killing animals. Animals aren’t meant to be killed. Killing animals is like killing a human being. Their families will be affected for the rest of their life. It’s either through depression or hard time surviving because the animal that you killed might be their protector or the one who gets food for them

Killing animals can make them extinct. This is because there are fewer animals means less mating and the result will be less offspring. Then you kill more animals and it's going to go lower. People say we have it under controlled and it's not going to go extinct but you can’t control everyone who hunts and kill for fun. They will keep doing this because it's their habit. I think killing animals can be compared to drugs. It’s addicting to some people and it’s hard to get off it and it can ruin lives.

These are my reasons why killing animals for sport should be banned. It's inhumane to kill animals for no reason, they aren’t meant to be killed, and it can make them go extinct. No wonder why we are starting to lose animals

Engineering Introduction to the lathe

Today we got introduced to the lathe. A lathe is a machine used to shape metal or other materials. How this work is your piece of material will go into the chuck and it will rotate while you push your cutting tool in to cut of materials. The main points that we talked about were turning down and facing off. Turning down is a form of cutting which is used to create rotational parts by cutting away. Faceoff is when you put your material on the chuck and the lathe cutting tool is used to level the ends. Wear safety glasses when you're using the lathe because the excess material you cut of can hit you in the eye

"Modal verb practice - Term 3 plan"

This term I have to be able to straighten my arm without it hurting.
I need to do this term so I can be active and play sports with my friends.
This term I should do the exercises that the Doctor gave me more often
This term I could focus more on exercising than playing video games

SoSt

Imphote was the physician of King Zozer and lived in about 2600bc. When he died he was worshipped as a god of healing.

When there are no obvious signs of illness many Ancient Egyptians Doctors and Priest believed that the disease is caused by spiritual beings. If no one can explain the disease magic potions are used to diver out the spirits.

-It dates back to 1500BC.
-It contains 700magical spells and remedies

Kahun Gynecological Papyrus

-It contains 34 sections
-Kahun Papyrus are non-surgical. Treatments generally include massage, fumigation and the application of various scented oils.

Who invented the first video game console

Late 1940's, Thomas T. Goldsmith and Estle R. Mann invented a device they called Cathode-Ray Tube Amusement Device. A device people can use to play basic games but it wasn't popular. In 1958 William higinbotham invented a electronic game called tennis for  two. But again it wasn't popular.
The first true video game wouldn't have been invented until 1967 by an engineer named Ralph H. Baer. Baer made the first prototype which will eventually become the Magnovox Odyssey the world's first video game console.
